About

Welcome!  Thanks for visiting my site, I’m so glad you’re here!

When I’m not reading or writing, I love to be out riding my Honda Shadow motorcycle…trying to live life to the fullest!

This picture was taken as my husband and I took off for an 1800 mile trip through the beautiful Pacific Northwest!

Doug and I have been married 32 years and have two wonderful kids.  They’re both married and in the early chapters of their adult lives.  They’ve given us two grandsons, and we thoroughly enjoy being Nana and Papa.

I am a survivor of chronic, severe childhood abuse and alcoholic parents.  The effects of my childhood abuse have reached every aspect of my life and relationships.  It has been a long, difficult journey of recovery and healing.

My passion is living life authentically and connecting with people in a real and genuine way.  As I continue my journey of discovery, awareness and healing I more fully realize what an impact we can have on each other by sharing our stories.

“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”

~Aristotle

Although I have experienced considerable pain in my life, I don’t want to simply survive, I want to thrive!

My memoir lives in my head, but screams to be set free. It’s a work in progress, and by the grace of God, so am I.

What is your passion?  I’d love to hear about it!

~Denise

I took a sabbatical, then had a hard time getting back into it again. I felt like I ran out of things to offer…then the babies showed up. I miss the blogging word, but just can’t seem to find my groove again. Thanks for asking, I appreciate it very much!
      How are you?

I have done the same thing due to working long hours. Now I am writing a book with a friend about blogging. He has been a professional blogger, and has lots of tips. I have had the experience of building a blog from the ground up for the sake of fun only. So our book is for folks like me who want to blog, but we don’t want to take the joy away from it by “having to blog.” One of his tips to help me rejuvenate was to begin reading blogs more intentionally, with the goal of connecting with like-minded people. I started out with my old list of blogging friends, and began following up to see how they are doing. Then he advised journaling, so I created a blogging journal which we give away to others who want to experiment with it. It has revitalized my blogging again because I’m reconnecting on purpose, not just with the intention to get followers, but to connect on a more personal level. Does that make any sense? Anyway, thanks for responding. I hope you get in the groove, but even if you don’t you can always leave me comments, or links to your posts in my comment box, and I’ll come read them. 🙂 Pictures and stories of babies????

🙂 That sounds like a fun project you have! Purpose does change perspective, doesn’t it?
I will post pictures later…It seems there are so few moments for ‘extras’!!

I know it! Busy is the new fine. “How are you?” “Busy.” “Me too!” What would we do if we weren’t busy? Yikes! 🙂 Thanks for posting! 🙂

Hmm…sometimes busy is an “out” for me. I am trying to be more aware if I’m using it as such. Easy rut for me to get into…

When I worked as a consultant, it would have almost been a sin not to be busy. It was almost a competition!!! But not to be busy… like an attorney with no billable hours. 😀😀😀

I think a lot of us (bloggers) find those times of sabbaticals… maybe a week, maybe a month or even longer… Our lives sometimes need more time… Diane

    Denise,
I couldn’t remember if I had said Hi or not. HI!
We’ve had several rescue animals and currently have a rescue cat (I prefer dogs!)
My youngest daughter has had training in search and rescue, and is currently a dog behavior trainer. She does a great job and loves the dogs (She also has rescue pets-a total of 4 dogs and 2 snakes right now!).

I’m so glad you and your family enjoy them, too!
Thanks for stopping by again, Robbie

Sweet Denise. I found out about you and this site through Diana S. She had posted one of your writings. I am not too sure about how blog works except hoe to read and comment,

My childhood has been treacherous…and I am still fighting my demons. I can only share with a pen and paper, but to myself….I am in awe of what I read about you and you look so young. I have resulted in being very ill and almost crippled with chronic pain. You give me hope and I do work so hard to try anything that helps. Thank you for your writings and I look forward being on here as much as I can. God bless.

Hi Linda, Diana is awesome and so is her blog! I’m glad you came over to visit here, too.

My heart hurt reading about your childhood and the implications it’s had on your health now. I’m so glad you are writing about it. It doesn’t matter if you never show anyone else what you’ve written. As long as it’s helping you heal, that’s what matters most.

If this blog, and others, give you hope then we are achieving a huge goal. To help each other heal. Knowing I’m not alone has truly been an amazing boost in my own healing journey.

Your chronic pain sounds familiar, I’m sorry you are struggling with those issues, too. It affects every area of our lives. I’m glad you are working hard on your healing too.

Thank you for sharing your story here, I hope to hear from you often!

Is it too soon to say I love you already?
You are such a positive and resilient woman and I’m drawn to anyone who makes authenticity a mantra and way of life. I’m so glad our paths crossed! Can’t wait to read more about the “mother inlaw” part…I’ll be in that role before I know it.
    Looking forward to seeing more!

My passion? To give a small measure of the love God has given me. Saying a small measure means I cannot love like God loves but that should not stop me from trying. At servantsjournal.com we want to challenge the body of Christ through the study of His word. May God bless you as you share hope to those who have dealt with tragedy in their childhood.
