We have a 4-legged addition to the family!
Hubby and I adopted a Catahoula Leopard mix from a local rescue organization last week and it’s like having a toddler in the house!
(We’d never heard of this breed before, but are quickly becoming educated. She’s a mix, so considerably smaller and calmer than a pure-bred.)
She’s one year old and full of vim, vinegar, and mischief.
(Except when she’s passed out, recharging her batteries!)
We’ve named her Callie; partly in deference to her southern Louisiana roots, and partly due to her calico markings.
Never mind all the balls, string toys, stuffed animals, and other spendy toys we bought -she loves a bucket the best! She rolls it around the yard, pouncing on it and growling it into submission.
Her nick-name is Monkey because she climbs her way onto my lap with no effort at all. She loves to cuddle!!
Her foster mom allowed her on the lap, couch, and bed. She’s so cute it’s hard to say no, but we’re trying to break those bad habits. Well… except this time as shown! 🙂
So, our house is toddler-proof again and we’re re-learning how to train a puppy. (Or is she training us?)
She’ll be meeting our grandpuppy Jessie soon, and we anticipate them becoming great friends!
If I go missing, it’s because I’ve gone to the dogs again!
How about you? Do you have a special pet at your house?

Oh, she’s so sweet! And what a lovely name (and nickname, haha!). We have 14 year old border terrier who is the love of our lives.

We have a rescue dog, an English Setter. This is the second rescue English Setter we’ve had, and we love the breed. Awesome with kids, easy to train, and nutsy! Enjoy your new family member. 🙂

Aw…your Setter sounds wonderful! I think rescue dogs are the best since they know you’ve given them a second chance. They are so loving and loyal! (Nutsy is a good trait, too!!! ha ha)

I’m so glad you adopted a rescue dog! We always have 2 shelter/rescue dogs; they keep each other company. Presently we have a 12-year old Australian Cattle Dog, Peanut, who has been with us for 11 years, and a 7-year old Miniature Poodle, Spud, who has been with us for 6 years. These two are so bonded they can’t stand to be apart. Peanut adopted Spud when we brought him home as if he were her very own child. She tattles on him, too, if he’s in the backyard barking and she can’t get him to come in. 🙂 They are such a joy to have!!

Oh so much fun, Ruth! We had 3 dogs once…one too many! Two is wonderful, though -as you say, they keep each other company. We will likely get another one, too, but for now we’re working on training and bonding. 🙂
Thanks for sharing about your pooches, too!

What fun! One of the profs at out school has a pet therapy puppy she is training and so we get to play with her at coffee break – although she thinks coffee break should be happening a bit more often!

Pet therapy has got to be the best thing ever!! And coffee breaks, to boot! Someone suggested we train Callie for pet therapy since she is such a lover, but I don’t know if I have it in me to do that much training!

Wow! 17 ? That is amazing! You must be so totally attached to him. The oldest dog I’ve had was 14 and it was awful when she died. I had to take a 2 year doggie break from the last one because my heart hurt too badly from them all over the years.
Callie is definitely spoiled, and has no shame about it either! haha

She’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s so much better getting dogs from a shelter instead of buying them at pet shops (yucky puppy farms!). I’m sure you’ll be very happy together 😀

You wrote – “Do you have a special pet at your house?” That’s a loaded question around here. We currently have 2 dogs, 2 cats, and a lop-eared rabbit. Everyone has their favorite pet. My favorite is Max, my long-hair tuxedo cat. He’s the ruler of all pets in the house. He’s also very affectionate and cute (and he knows it). We are also getting a new 4-legged addition – I am adopting a Lab-Alaskan Malamute mix toward the end of May. She is being fostered in Mississippi until after we return from our vacation. Even though we have someone living at the house while we are gone, I didn’t feel it was right to leave a new dog with someone else. The rescue found a foster for her and now I am counting the days until she travels to NJ.
Callie is adorable. I love her markings. Funny, I was thinking of naming my new dog Callie, but I will probably go with Jade. I plan to get a black jade heart to put on her collar (she’s all black with brown and white markings on her legs). She is currently called Daisy, but since I had a chicken named Daisy, that won’t cut it. I can’t officially name her until I meet her.
Best of luck with your new 4-legged family member and CONGRATS!

Hey Kathy! Sounds like a fun zoo at your house! We used to have 3 rabbits and 3 dogs, a lizard and goldfish 🙂 Lops are so cute and sweet. We loved them!
Your lab/malemute mix will be beautiful!
Jade sounds beautiful, too. Callie was named Lily but we didn’t think it fit. It took a few days to decide!
Have a great time with your new baby! I hope you post pictures 🙂

LOL – your zoo sounds like my zoo. We’ve also had owl finches and guinea pigs. A house isn’t a home without having to step over or around someone. Right now we also have a 90 gallon saltwater fish tank and my daughter’s beta fish – which I have no idea how it’s survived this long. I will definitely post pics when I get my puppy. I can’t wait. Jade will be the 35th pet in my life since my first dog at age 3.

Oh, she’s adorable. So happy you’ve found each other.
We adopted a beautiful dog several years back. Unfortunately, within a week, my husband was on an inhaler. A trip to the allergist diagnosed a severe dog allergy. New pups had to go back. The kids still hold it against him…
